Global Warming - Fact or SCAM

Today we have both politicians and a small number of scientists screaming about this issue and here we are John and Jane Q. Public sitting here with no clue if this stuff is real or the greatest SCAM/HOAX of the 21st Century. So what are we to do? Well, taking a common sense approach might be a good start and then look at a few things that may lead us to an answer. Let us ask ourselves a few basic questions first. Note: I won't give you a difinitive answer here but I will provide you with ammunition to conduct your own research and make your own decision on this.

• Do those that are screaming the loudest have something to gain?
  
  Well, recently Al Gore has purchased a 9% share of a company that wants the Federal Government to sponsor something called a Carbon Credit Card. If the government approves this bill which he as a sitting Senator is going to vote on and is a sponsor of stands to gain hundreds of millions of dollars on it in Royalties and dividends.
  
• How many, that is what portion of the legitimate scientific community are also on board with this theory?
  
  Conservative estimates are that approximately 60% or higher of the legitimate scientific community has seen no conclusive evidence to support the theory of Global Warming or Global Cooling.
  
• Do the politicians that support this have something to gain politically by supporting it? IE Political donations, etc.
  
• Have the politicians that support this theory actually researched it or do they simply support it for political expediency?
  
• Currently man with all of his technology is unable to travel to other planets, nor is he able to explore his own oceans or areas beneath his own planet. He is unable to predict Earthquakes, control tornadoes, or alter the course of a Hurricane. So, how is he able to change the temperature of an entire planet?
  
• If man is truly altering the temperature of the planet then why have the Polar Icecaps and ice flows gotten bigger, colder, and deeper over the last several years?
  
• Why are the people that are sounding the alarm generally meteorologists instead of geologists? Geologists after all are the ones that have studied this planet and it's growth over the past 4+ billion years. Seems logical that they would be the ones that would actually know about temperature changes this planet has gone through.
  
• What is a greenhouse gas and is it even possible to generate one outside of a controlled environment? After all a greenhouse is a closed area where the climate can be manually controlled. The last time I checked this planet was a wide open area and the only thing close to a greenhouse effect might be a thermal inversion we would experience in a higly industrialized area like Los Angeles or Detroit.
  
• What entity or heavenly body is the only thing that can actually affect the temperature of this planet?
  
  Well, the last time I looked that was the Sun and we have ZERO control over that thing.
  
• And last but not least exactly how long have these guys been screaming about global warming and how many of their predictions have actually come true?
  
  The first answer is easy, they have been shouting alarms for over 30 years. First it was a new Ice Age was coming, then when that didn't happen they shifted to Global Warming. Supposedly the Ice Caps were supposed to have melted by the year 2000 and the oceans would raise by some 30 feet which would have turned New Orleans into an underwater graveyard. Neither have happened nor does it seem likely that they will happen anytime soon.
